A Word From Kathi Thomas (SD25)

I have been e-mailing back and forth with Kathy Thomas lately. She has a clear set of what she wants to do once elected to State Senate. The over-arching goal is to improve the quality of education and quality of life for future Texans. I can tell you more, but Thomas can do a much better job herself.

On Health Care

Without health care, children can't do as well in school, due to their parents often having to wait until the children are so sick they take them to the emergency room.

On Pay Equity

Without adequate pay, children don't get the food nor the care they need. When parents are so busy working 2-3 jobs just to put food on the table or keep a roof over their heads, it is hard for them to spend time on homework with their kids, it is hard for them to take off for parent/teacher conferences.

On Education

Education is the best way out of poverty (a quote from Pres. Johnson), good education brings high quality businesses to the state, so that is good for all. Investment in our children makes all our futures brighter.

On Legal Protections

I also believe that ALL families deserve the same legal protections. That means divorced parents must pay their child support, single mothers need to collect child support from their children's fathers, children of same gender couples should receive the same benefits from their non biological or nonadoptive parent that any opposite gender parented child receives (visitation, decisions about healthcare, inheritance, etc.)

On the Environment

Almost everything I care about relates to our kids- even having good environmental policies relate to their future.
